In Texas there are a Republican and an alternate democrat judges in republican districts and the opposite in democrat districts. I would assume it’s the same in other states. The judges have the last say about eligibility and alternative ballots. This is for early and Election Day in person voting at the polling place.
Yes, here in MO there has to be an even number of each party, as judges at a polling location. If there's 3 republican judges, there has to be 3 democrats too.
