Well, he's a Finn. We have way too many of those. Finnish spirit seems to be a constant dance between wanting freedom and independence, but at the same time feeling kind of inferior and wanting to appeal to the bigger players of the world. This is a nation that has been occupied for most of our history by our more powerful neighbors. Finns used to be seen as these backcountry hillbillies that were not good for much and most of the "civilized" part of the world didn't even know existed.
So we still get a lot of this bootlicking behavior, emulating those who seem more like they are part of the "big world" in hopes they will accept us - or whoever is doing it - as one of them.
