Ok. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt. You might think I'm crazy... Well something similar happened to me one time when I was moving. I was driving a long Penske truck and had to stop at Lowe's to pick something up before finishing the last 2 miles to my new house. I got whatever it was I needed (can't remember now - 6 or 7 years ago), put it in the back of the already packed truck, pulled the door down, latched it (or so I thought), and put the padlock on it. I then drove out of the shopping center parking lot at a stoplight, turned left, and all hell broke loose.
The door (with the latch still locked) popped open and my wine fridge full of really good wines tumbled out into the intersection leaving wine and glass all over the road. I called the cops and the fire department immediately, and they came out to clean up and direct traffic around the mess (cops took over for me). I guess you could say I made a grand entry into my new city. They were all cracking up at the whole situation.
Fortunately the Autozone on the corner was nice enough to let me throw the fridge and all the broken bottles into their dumpster.
So yeah - it is actually possible for this to happen.
Someone said chain of custody and I agree that might also be a problem. Sorry to hear about your incident.
Agreed. I'm not saying the person shouldn't be fired - just that it can easily happen. I know some people absolutely believe this wasn't an accident, but an "on purpose". That is possible too, but it isn't the only possible scenario.
It sucks for him (if he gets fired), but chain of custody is very important. They can say the seals were still intact, but they can easily put another seal on if they can fake hundreds of thousands of ballots. And u/mahsidivad has a point as well with the possibility of adding bags/bins.
And yeah - my incident sucked. I lost a bunch of very fine and very old wines including a really old 60+ year Port I saved for years for my daughter's college graduation - a few weeks from that incident. Still pisses me off.
It could happen just like you said.
Sucks to be the person who got fired but election integrity is so important right now you need to hang on for dear life with what you are entrusted.
