Blue state, used to have paper books they'd look for you in. Polling place moved, this year they have little tablet kiosks. They put in your name and address, and it shows them a bunch of information including your registered party.
Makes you feel intimidated a bit. They know whether to fuck with your ballot or not.
They print you a receipt with 4 numbers and you take 8 steps to the other table to get a ballot based on the number. I assume related to district or whatever, but would be an easy way to rig it by giving all the GOP people 1234 and then discarding those.
I actually asked what the number meant and why it was there and she told me that it was the polling location I was voting at.
I thought of the same thing that it could be a way of distinguishing how voters will be voting and yes, definitely more high tech this time around than just a book to check on street address.
I vote in a blue state and there was no voter ID I was asked for...just street address.
