Just a reminder: Trump pulled the Fed into the Treasury in 2019, where it has remained. The Treasury answers to the president. Jerome Powell, therefore, has no power or ability to refuse to be fired

Trump was raising the issue of firing Powell in 2019. Trump said he has the right to "demote" him.

The President has waged an unprecedented public pressure campaign on his handpicked Fed chairman, Jerome Powell. He’s called him “loco” in interviews, asked if he could be fired and on Sunday he again said he has the right to demote Powell.
