Just heard a podcast a while back with Donald Jeffries author of American Memory Hole arguing why Joe McCarthy was a good senator and why Lincoln was one of the worst presidents ever due to his suspension of habeus corpus, freedom of speech and other overreaching policies that set new precedent. I tended to agree with his comments so when I see Trump compared to Lincoln I don't necessarily like it.

There's the overarching Lincoln that i think was overall very good.
But judged on policy point by point, there's some glaring issues.
I'm not a history buff, but I would think trying to mend fences on either side led to some sacrifices.
