My matriarchal grandfather fought upon the slope of Luzon.
Bloody and brutal.
He should have died and i should not exist.
On the head of the table he had 2 pictures.
Jesus Christ and John Wayne.
He was very aware that John Wayne never served, but he loved the guy all the same.
Why?
Every guy at that moment had to be John Wayne, to save the life of the next man.
My grandfather who is buried at Riverside knew.
God Bless him and his picture of John Wayne at the kitchen table.
They tried to go after John Wayne airport, KSNA, not to long ago. They Failed. Huge statue of him at the airport.
Good to hear.
I feel this, grandpa had a John Wayne portrait right behind his tv room chair.

I spoke with John Wayne on the phone once and tried to climb to the top balcony of the Capitol dome with his grandchildren. I only made it to the first balcony and went down very slowly on narrow pie shaped stairs with an open rail which circled the dome. Scary as heck. Went to dinner with his children and Maureen O'Hara he was a good man and a good father.
