Putting the Lib schools' accreditation at risk is FAR more powerful than withholding federal funding. Rich donors can make up for any federal funding shortfall, but stripping schools of their accreditation is the DEATH BLOW!
I worked at a College once (not as a teacher/prof) and I can tell you, when their accreditation renewal time came around, it was an all-hands-on-deck, everything else flies out the window time of intense focus by every single employee at the college. Every single person's job depended on the college staying open/in business, so everyone moved mountains to keep their precious accreditation status.
