I think Gowdy had a chance to be a white hat during his political career, but chose not to be one.

I'd agree with this, he was all talk and no action. It was fun to watch him interrogate witnesses though while in congress.

That was my take as well.

He always seemed to be playing to the gallery but I don't remember anything ever coming of his inquiries. He did say "exculpatory" a lot, though!
