It’s probably a pretty simple scenario. Regardless of what we want there was no way enough Senators were going to get behind Rick Scott. And, the longer it went, the greater the possibility Cornyn might have gotten enough votes.
Thune versus Cornyn is the lesser of two evils. And, quite likely someone President Trump will be able to control.
Someone on here posted that Thine might be interested in running for gov of N Dakota now that Noem is leaving. Noem could appoint new senator and then you get a new election.
