Maybe it’s heartless to say, but I’m glad no airplanes can leave because it means our government can’t flood our streets in a last gasp of ruining our country. At least not in that way.
Maybe it also means that people have to stick around in their own country and fix their own shit.
Let’s be honest though, we’ll send more “aid” and troops soon.
From reading the article it seems less a battle and more the last gasps of a dying Central Government.
With 85% of the Capital now allegedly run by various Gangs and Criminal outfits. And the Airport shutdown because incoming and outgoing aircraft are having potshots being taken at them.
The U.S could take a page out of its Cold War playbook. We’ve got a few hundred thousand Haitians in country at minimum. Plus Expats who left prior to the latest round of chaos. You’d probably be able to get enough Volunteers to raise a couple Brigades. Maybe even a full on Division.
We get neighboring countries to contribute equipment to Arm them. And we turn them loose on the island. Maybe with a few international Advisors including Chinese and Russians so they don’t complain at Security Council meetings. Ideally they’d pledge to whatever is left of the current Government. But really worst thing that could happen is they install a new Dictatorship. Either way it’ll likely result in some form of stability for the Island. And reduce the numbers of Haitians seeking to flee.
