From 1940 to 1985, McDonald’s fries were cooked in beef tallow. In 1990, McDonald’s switched from beef tallow to vegetable oil, reportedly due to pressure from a motivated millionaire and the Heart Saver’s Association, which advocated for the removal of high-fat items from menus. I remember as well at that time there was a "totally organic outrage" over vegans not knowing that the fries were cooked with animal fat and I am sure that, the asshats had nothing to do with that, "totally organic outrage" amongst the .. people that was being spammed all over the news at the time. I do not remember much of all that but, do remember how disgusted my older sister was that they changed the way the cooked the fries and that they were nasty tasting now.. They did change things up a few years later that made them taste better, I am pretty sure that is when they started using the VERY bad for you but addictive salt.
I remember liking their food when I was a young kid. Didn't like it at all as a teen & didn't know why. I was just gross.

I do recall hearing how bad animals were for us & especially animal fats. My dad used to laugh & say, "Those animal fats will kill you with cancer. Just look at the 90+ year old farmers in Delta, those fats will get them someday.... It's coming." We all laughed & learned that fake science was a thing at a young age.
I would not have known as well if not for my older sister's full out protest on how they ruined the fries. lolol
