Takes about six months to pay of it's carbon footprint, this is exaggerated.
I think a lot of the 'lefty' push towards 'solutions' is because we're all totally fucked and they're trying to prevent us from realizing this and panicking, because...
There will be water wars and food wars before we are old enough to die. There's nothing we can do to stop that from happening at this point. The sea is fucked, the rivers are dead, the insects are buggered, the birds have lost half their genetic diversity, the north pole is not that far off becoming a sea, changing global politics and sparking a massive war between Russia and China, the penguins are dying out, which will probably be the extinction that really kicks the kids in the heart, greenland is blue now, you can forget going fishing in ten years time when the heat starts kicking up towards 50c and the run off from the farms has suffocated the fish that haven't died of heat stroke, the hurricanes will get worse, and, given our run of bad luck so far, I'd be willing to stake money on a serious volcanic eruption.
If people realized just how close to a massive human wipeout we are... I worry about what will happen when the average person realizes it's almost over.
