What you described is the difference between the UK Parliamentary system and the US Constitutional Republic. In the UK, a general election can be called at any time, while our presidential elections mean we have that administration for four years unless impeached by the House AND convicted by the Senate. Even then, we have an amendment that describes who then succeeds the president.
The situation present in the UK calls for Parliament to at least consider a no confidence vote.
