The execution of a traitor is not an act of vengeance. Justice and vengeance are two separate things. Vengeance is an expression of hate. The execution of a traitor is a deterrent and it is the only way to MAKE JUSTICE GREAT AGAIN. To stay sane, forgive every traitor. Forgiveness is a personal thing, but Justice is a societal (group) thing. Forgiveness does not mean criminals get off the hook, for it was them who placed themselves on that hook in the first place.
It was not us who chose death for traitors. THEY chose death for themselves when they chose death for us. Treason is not just the wish of death for others, it is plotting and knowingly enacting efforts to bring about death for others — death for our lives and liberties, death for our way of life, death for America, death for our children. THEY chose death for us. It's a stupid thing to do.
To execute a traitor is simply to respect their power of choice and deliver the end they chose. Death is the fitting penalty because if you do anything else, they will simply try to kill us again as soon as they can.
So with forgiveness in our hearts we must allow each traitor (and there are thousands of them) to have the penalty they knowingly selected. That will restore our sense of Justice and help heal the human race.
