to not only show DJT as a no-no sense, fair, brilliant and astute business leader, but as a prelude to how he's going to operate in the WH for his real/2025-2029 term?

Personally, I do not think it is that. Who voted for Trump because "he was a no-nonsense, fair, brilliant and astute business leader" on a reality tv show?

Rather, I think that the Apprentice WAS part of the plan to raise the profile of Trump and make him well known to a larger segment of the population. In that sense, yes. But not specifically to show him "in action". That is what 2017-2020 was all about.
