I would prefer that it be mothballed for a decade or so because as sure as day follows night, the one thing you can count on is thieves, gangsters and politicians are attracted to big money. Like moths to a light they can't help themselves. If DOGE is not operable to keep them in line they will appear out of nowhere to try and grab as much as possible and the whole thing starts over. No. DOGE needs to be a permanent part of the government.
There are only 15 (I think) Departments in the Fed. Creating a real Department of Government Efficiency would require an Act of Congress. It would be on the level of creating Space Force as a 5th branch of MIL.
From what I've surmised, DOGE is a "consultancy" to the Fed, not an authorized government entity. They can make recommendations, but not sure how they are going to make actual cuts and who is funding it. They would have to make a regulation and either Congress passes a law based on it, or POTUS EOs the recommendation.
