No one ever has to do that. I’m not saying healthcare insurance hasn’t become a joke but you can pay off any hospital bill in very small increments over years and years and years. How do I know? We do it

But sometimes insurance limits doctors from doing tests or procedures that would have discovered something earlier before it becomes terminal.

I know people this has happened too.
