I don't like his tattoos or Catholicism. When America was founded, you couldn't serve in the government if you were Catholic, as that religion was precisely the tyrannical beast that the first Americans had to flee from, along with her daughter the Church of England who acted in like manner. We need to go back. No more Church + State marriages, no more Inquisitions, no more Crusades. Freedom of Conscience must not be infringed.
The people fled the tyranny of the King and Church of England, not Catholicism.
The separation had a pretty awful effect on Christian people over the last few centuries.
Ireland was decimated by “good Protestants” and zealots like Cromwell who hated Catholics religiously. They didn’t exactly behave like Christians.
I do agree that church and state must be separate, but we have replaced church with worship of the state.
The separation of Church and State was to protect the church from being overtaken by the state, as with the Church of England. It was not meant to remove all traces of religion from the government. John Adams' famous statement that "Our constitution was made for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other" indicates that Judeo-Christian values were assumed to be part of the American mindset. By removing all traces of our religious heritage from our government we have revealed the truth in Adams' statement.
Unfortunately, yes.
Rules and regulations have replaced morality and compassion.
