It was a frivolous idea for a joke. But it is an absurd idea as a proposal. We do not have a shared political history at all. And for some, not even a shared language. They are rightfully proud of their independence, and this idea would only look like arrogance and imperialism (which it would be). We don't need them as anything more than good neighbors, and so also for them toward us.

With a population of 40 million, just reflect on 20 million Canadians voting against MAGA out of spite. And joining forces with the Democrats. This idea has disaster written all over it.
