I was sailing the Caribbean just before Covid hit and was in Sint Maarten. I had been dealing with a pinched nerve that escalated to the point where my entire right arm was in so much pain I could not focus on anything else. I went to a local Dutch doctor to seek relief. He gave me an earful about American medical practices and although he did end up prescribing me steroids because I didn't quite have the cash for stem cell therapy, he interestingly prescribed a complete lifestyle change to manage my chronic inflammation. It was basically a keto diet, daily fresh tumeric, and two hours of sunlight - one hour in the morning and one hour before nightfall. I pointed out that I was living on a sailboat at the time, so I had the sunlight covered and began more seriously transitioning to a keto-ish diet. I have taken his prescription to heart and happily have not had a recurrence of the pinched nerve and can say that my chronic inflammation only flares up when I neglect my diet and/or exposure to sunlight.
Great testimonial! How do you do the tumeric bit - grated into food or a drink? I see a lot of people recommend tumeric supplements, but I always think we should focus on the real food. I’m personally not into furry, so looking for other options.
As I was in the Caribbean at the time, fresh turmeric root was plentiful in the grocery stores... usually right next to the potatoes. You can smash it up to make a tea or simply eat it like a carrot which is what I did. It has a sweet earthy flavor when fresh. I have also added it to salads and soups. Here in the states, you can find it in Asian grocery stores or order it by the box full through Amazon.
