Quite the opposite. He is frantic to find a way out that does not get him killed, because he is between a rock (his Nazi / CIA curators) and a hard place (Russian military forces). The rock is quite willing to kill every Ukrainian and/or instigate nuclear war to prevent the discovery of their crimes against humanity, and the hard place is implacable and hard to scare.

I figured it was a figurative "suicidal", like how friends of Hillary Clinton tend to suddenly be found to be "suicidal" at extremely convenient times, or have a "weightlifting accident"
