To be fair, he probably needs to put his personal matters in order, as he will be resigning from a well-paying job...and may be at risk of losing his pension. Other people have sold houses and moved to another state for less looming reasons. All that would be especially relevant to his family if he gets indicted, tried, convicted, sentenced, and incarcerated. Resignation may be his only way of getting favorable consideration in what may come.
