In his first letter he stated that the wound was 2 cm long, slightly less than an inch, and that there was granular tissue forming. Granular tissue is typical formed during the healing process when there is missing tissue. I read it as the an area approximately 1 inch long of the top of the ear was lost due to the bullet strike. It should mostly fill in but will leave a scar.
I agree 100%, that trauma isn’t superficial. That trauma is mental, emotional and the like. The ear wound is physical. Picking nits. Few people could react as well as Trump has. We saw a real miracle, Gods hand moving his head just so.
Technically it was “superficial”, from a medical standpoint. What is important is the fact that a few mm over it could have ripped the side of his face off or even worse gone through the brain and he would be dead. A matter of fractions of an inch. He is using the “superficial” term to minimize the event.
