The real villains are the local DA, Nifong, and the principal media maven, probably the CNN lady who championed the prosecution. The story had obvious flaws from the get-go, including inconsistent and contradictory testimony from the accuser. Those individuals are in positions where their job is to know better and do better. Of course now we know it wasn't a mistake but a conscious, premeditated attempt to start a race war.
Of course the stripper bears plenty of blame, too, and it's good that she repented. But society has a different expectation of those who publicly compromise themselves for money (even if most of them have better limits than this one had). The greater betrayal came from the D.A. and the newscaster, and if either one had any shred of repentance, I haven't heard it.
