Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

Thanks for the list of brand names.. I'll check those out!
Your welcome. I’m kinda (one of) the group non toxic brand name helper. I don’t mind at all. Wish we had a section to save info like this. Plant Therapy has a different sale each day from thanksgiving to Christmas and free shipping, first day is best sale. Eden’s garden has great carrier oils and in nice pump bottles. Keep in fridge if you aren’t using quickly, they will go rancid after a while, no preservatives. I like e garden but seem to find more blends at P therapy. The the others probably have sales I haven’t ordered in long time and just ordered yesterday from PT. PT has sale most holidays and anniversary sale in June or July.
I didn't know you have to keep in fridge.. how'd they do it back then in Israel since I'd think it's hotter there.. I might try the Eden's Garden and treat myself to a Christmas gift. Thanks again! :)
It’s just carrier oils like coconut, olive, jojoba, hemp, castor, almond, etc. Those are just a few of the common oils. Basically any plant seed can be made into oils. These oils can be safely applied topically and won’t burn you. Essential oils are classified as hot, warm, etc. I’m sorry I’m not educated enough to advise what oils are safe to apply topically with out a carrier.
Oils like lemongrass, tea tree and oregano are extremely hot. I learned that the hard way. Back when I was very new I put lemongrass on a wet washcloth and applied after bathing. You don’t make that mistake twice! It burned me like a sunburn. I believe lavender is the only oil that can be applied safely not mixed with carrier oils, don’t rely on me for this.
Also some oils are considered photosensitive and many will burn more easily if they get in the sun after using. Same as some prescription meds. I don’t have that issue with those oils meds. Sure, I’ll burn if out too long but don’t have issues with photosensitivity.
Great question how'd they do it back then in Israel since I'd think it's hotter there The oils brought by the wisemen, frankincense and myrrh are considered essential oils. They don’t go rancid. They could use their potency after a while. When an essential oil is considered expired it can still be used in room sprays etc, just doesn’t have aromatherapy capabilities. Again, I’m far from an expert on essential oils. This week I’ll try to find some helpful websites. I know where to look just might take me a little while.
If you are going to order essential oils that aren’t blended with coconut (or other carrier oils) that will work for aromatherapy diffusing. You can get a nasal diffuser and put few drops on the cotton swab, each company sells them or you can order from Amazon. There’s lots of electric & car diffusers available as well. I haven’t researched those. Simple way is a few drops in palm of your hand (for some reason doesn’t burn the palm). Rub hands together and put your hands over nose. Take deep breaths. I do this a lot with frankincense or bergamot. There’s also table side diffusers made out of stone or volcanic rock, these are inexpensive. I keep cheaper oils in bathroom I get at TJ Maxx (rest of that chain). Put a few drops in toilet after I go or walk in after someone else stunk it up🤨 I don’t keep the regular bathroom spray, allergic.
When essential oils are blended with a carrier oil for topical application it’s done with a certain percentage of essential oil and the rest carrier. I think 3% is the amount you face application. I have a chart I keep on my fridge. It’s from 3-10% depending on the usage. This is one reason I don’t blend my oils. I can figure out how to get a virus off a pc but can’t add simple math without calculator (can still screw up with it). If my husband is here he will help me. Bottom line if you aren’t safe with percentages blending it can be dangerous for topical application. It’s not rocket science, more people probably do this in their homes than professionals. I just know my limits!
I think Eden’s Garden is 25% until the sales end. Plant Therapy has been doing a certain product line about half off and 15% off other items. I’m not sure about the other companies. If you ever miss a sale google plant therapy coupon there’s usually at least 10% online. Also plant therapy gives rewards you can apply to check out. Do a review, get a reward. If you shop a lot it’s worth taking the time to review.
aromatics.com has very good oils and some I don’t find elsewhere. Little more expensive, have certain oils on sale most always, offers rewards (not as good as plant therapy). I like that they use olive oil instead of coconut in blends. Especially if I’m using on my face. Coconut dries me out. They have a great blog and recipes, also YouTube channel. You can learn a lot from them.
Hope that helps.
