Many buildings have pancaked and the new US embassy which also houses the NZ Embassy Is in danger of collapsing. The market area has been badly hit and there are numerous landslides. The death toll stands at one but many people have been injured. Due to continuing aftershocks, people are being treated outside. Please pray for these beautiful, humble people. 🙏🏼

Coincidentally, I did a quick search on GAW to make sure no one else had started a thread on it and was surprised to see that back in 2021 in October, they had another 7.3 earthquake. This area is prone to earthquakes and we will never forget the ‘Boxing Day Earthquake and Tsunami’ that killed 300,000 people.
I’ve often thought that these people while content with their laidback lifestyle, and they seem to recover quickly from these constant disasters, but Australia could dock many refurbished cruise ships to house those left homeless. It’s around 48+ hours sailing time, depending where the stricken area is, but could be ready to sail immediately and remain outside the tsunami zone until it passes.
The numerous cabins could house a family as they have bathrooms. They have meeting areas which could be turned into areas where people can register for assistance, check on missing persons etc. The children could attend school as some of the previous entertainment areas could be turned into crèches as well. These ships have small hospitals that would take the strain off field or military hospitals. They also have their own power and water making facilities. They are like a floating small city where people can be housed and given 3 meals a day. Moving people to a safe area while emergency workers can bring down dangerous buildings, clear debris etc. would be advantageous. Those capable of helping could leave via tenders and return to the ship/s at night, while the elderly, Mothers and children would be safe and out of the heat and rain. This would be a temporary solution until their homes are rebuilt, electricity and drinking water restored etc. There are plenty of harbours these ships could be moored in the meantime around Australia.
