Should it really cost that much to campaign? And if that’s the case mainly rich people are all that can afford to run and most of those have no real understanding of the everyday common man’s life struggles

Advertising and buying endorsements is an expensive industry, I'm not sure how you would get around that. the way I see it any attempt to enforce limits would just lead to even more corruption.
