I recently bought a Mossberg 590 "Shockwave" pump in 410 GA which came with an official letter from the ATF that simply classifies it as a "firearm" - not a short-barreled anything. It has a shorter barrel and a pistol grip, plus I outfitted it with a laser and a light. I imagine Mossberg asked them for some clarification before it became publicly available. I love that "firearm" so much I sleep with it every night.
