Idk why this saying is a thing. The San Andreas fault is a strike slip, west coast is moving northwest, not away from the mainland. I’m surprised people don’t say this about Portland and Seattle, since those cities are next to a fault line that WILL guarantee the coasts of PNW to literally fall into the ocean.
