I found a salamander in our basement sump last year and thought it had come through the drain pipe, but later realized it couldn't have, because there is a valve that only allows water to be pumped out; nothing could come in! I guess it came through some crack in the foundation, or maybe just climbed under the garage door. The weird thing is, this type of salamander lives underground and is almost never seen because they spend their whole life underground!
