Quit being tribal, we don't have to agree on every issue. We need to fix the visa system. Musk has done a lot of good things. More than most of his detractors on this site. Maybe it is a part of the plan to sift a few more people out, or just to get the discussion rollong.
"Take a big step back and go FUCK YOURSELF in the face".
There. The discussion is rolling. Don't miss the part where the richest guy in the world said he would go to war in order to keep the cheap labor flowing in.
That is not what Musk said. While it is true H1B has been corrupted from its true purpose, I wouldn't consider Musk cheap labor nor his workforce cadre.
If the tweet is real, that's what he said.
I now notice that he also is implying that the HB1 is what is behind America being strong.
"Cheap labor"? Do you know how much it costs a company to sponsor a candidate on an H1B visa? And then they have to pay a salary that's attractive enough for him/her to move to America (not cheap). And the health insurance.
I considered moving to the USA myself many years ago. But, at the time, I was told that I couldn't get a job without a "green" card (blue & white, actually) and I couldn't get a green card without a job. Then there was the matter of health insurance, moving costs, lawyer's fees, greasing a few palms (really) and buying a house for my family. All that plus a really weird (to a Brit, sorry) emphasis on religion. I decided not to bother.
That said, Barry Goldwater wrote me to say that he'd love to have me working in America and it was a pity that I didn't tell him while he was still in the senate legislature and could have helped. This was in 1988 when he lived up the hill in/near Scottsdale under the "preying monk" rock or whatever it's called. His house had a huge ham radio aerial on it.
