Smoke detectors contain small amounts of radioactive material. With all the smoke detectors burned, that radioactive material is released. Ironic isn't it?
Could be, I suppose. If any of the areas that are now burning have had any contamination before the fires can certainly release that. And I found this:
Doesn't look like that particular site is one of those where the fires are now, but I suppose it's always possible they dumped elsewhere, or there were some earlier labs or such that have left contaminated sites where the fires are.
Wood captures radioactive isotopes which are released when it burns. You can detect elevated radiation levels around a campfire. Now picture how much wood is burning in the 3000 or so acres that are on fire currently.
There as a LOT of radiation after Fukishima blew out that was carried to the West Coast in the prevailing winds-if you remember, oblamer and family jumped into a jet and went to South America for the duration.. 😒
