Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

The only concert I've ever been to was a Van Halen (sp?) concert I surprised my husband for his birthday when we were newlyweds. He absolutely loved it. Now when I hear a Van Halen song, I smile because it reminds me of him. : )
Well you picked an epic band for sure! Roth or Hagar era? I prefer Roth, but Sammy’s cool. That was very thoughtful I’m sure he appreciated it and great memories.
We went to a small new venue last summer. It’s sit down crowd so you better not dare stand up. It’s also cheaper than the big artists so you can’t expect the rowdy crowd. I don’t like that type of crowd but I can every now and then. What’s funny to me is they are my age, 57 or younger. Dolly Parton’s brother Randy started this place about twenty years ago to be a huge concert venue. Built a big music theater with nice plush seats like opera house. It didn’t do anything and sat empty for a long time. New owners have some good older rock and country groups scheduled. We saw Sara Evan’s and couldn’t believe how good her vocals are and she very entertaining. By the way she’s awake, doesn’t post about it but follows everyone I do. We have tickets for Marty Stuart in February, he’s always a favorite and very fun concert.
You gotta get yourself to some shows. I’d be loving being in Texas with the honky tonks. I want to see Casey Donahew and he only plays in TX, OK and states around MT. I got as far as Billy Bob’s Parking lot. We were in town one night and I wasn’t leaving my mom alone or going in a place like that alone. I’m not a bar person and I don’t drink often. But I’d love to see some of the Texas artist in TX. If it’s meant to be it will. I’ve got plenty here to keep me busy and very happy.
It was David Lee Roth back then. We did have fun. He was so surprised. I always have a hard time surprising him, but that was the best lol.
I'm not one for big crowds and hectic parking lots, so I haven't been to a concert since, but he's been to a couple with our son.
The closest I come to a concert these days is when there's a live band on the square downtown or the most popular restaurant downtown has open mic night or karaoke out on the patio.
I get not liking big crowds. Driving in heavy traffic and parking lots guess I don’t sweat it because I was raised on racing. Lots of experience getting out of parking lots. Drive like Earnhardt sr, let nobody in. But I get people are crazy especially when drinking. Miranda female fans are the worst, I’m not but I don’t take junk. They get in your business and try fight or argue about being in the front in the pit yet they didn’t get in line four hours early. Yet, she gets bad rep for stopping the show and busting beach balls, etc. It can get crazy! For the most part crowds doesn’t bother me, I’ve always the “never met a stranger” type. I’m just a little more reserved now and don’t get into people’s life history because I probably don’t agree with it. However I’m that way as much now. After seeing how stupid people actually are over the past five years I don’t like to be out as much around people. If I got free tickets to Eric Church, Miranda, Stapleton etc I’d go in hot minute. I like the little venues better, we normally don’t go out to live band places, too lazy at home. Anyway, I enjoyed your Van Halen story.
