'Pizzagate' gunman is shot dead in traffic stop

The 'Pizzagate' gunman, Edgar Maddison Welch, 36, who believed there was a Democrat child sex conspiracy ring being run out of a pizzeria in Washing D.C. was fatally shot Saturday evening.

That's a formal statement used in reports. I've also seen "service revolver" or "service weapon".

Due to the possibilty of police officers having their own personal weapons, they want to be specific that they used the weapon given to them by the Force.
