Further context. Ezekiel is in captivity after he's been taken to Babylon when Nebuchadnezzar sacked Israel after God used Nebuchadnezzar for that purpose to punish Israel for what is mentioned repeatedly in Ezekiel, but particularly graphically described in Ezekiel 23:
"For they have played the whores and blood is in their hands, and with their idols have they committed adultery and have also caused their sons, whom they bare unto me, to pass through the fire to be their meat." (i.e., they're eating their babies)
Then verse 39: "For when they had slain their children to their idols, they came the same day into my sanctuary to defile it: and lo, thus have they done in the midst of mine house." [bolding is mine]
So Ezekiel has been prophesying the word of God throughout the time of his captivity in Babylon. And in the eleventh year of said captivity God speaks through Ezekiel saying, "...I desire not the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn you from your evil ways, for why will ye die, o ye house of Israel?" (Ezekiel 33:11)
Then in verse 15: "If the wicked restore the pledge and give again that he had robbed and walk in the statutes of life without committing iniquity, he shall surely live and not die..."
Then THIS very interesting few verses:
"...these that dwell in the desolate places of the land of Israel talk and say, Abraham was but one and he possessed the land: but we are many, therefore the land shall be given us in possession." Ezekiel 33:24
(^^^^^^DOES THIS ARGUMENT SOUND FAMILIAR? LIKE TODAY'S WOKE COMMIE WORLD VIEW WE HEAR ALL THE TIME?)
But here is God's answer to that:
"Wherefore say unto them, 'Thus saith the Lord God, "Ye eat with the blood and lift up your eyes toward your idols and shed blood: should ye then possess the land?
"Ye lean upon your swords: ye work abomination and ye defile every one of his neighbor's wife: should ye then possess the land?" (Ezekiel 33:25-26)
Then verse 28: "For I will lay the land desolate and waste, and the pomp of her strength shall cease: and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, and none shall pass through."
"Then shall they know that I am the Lord, when I have laid the land desolate and waste because of their abominations that they have committed." (Ezekiel 33:29)
Call me crazy, but this ALL SOUNDS AN AWFUL LOT LIKE HOLLYWOOD TO ME.
Isnt the devil tempting eve in the very first book of the old testament?
