Well, they do seem to protect at least somewhat from pollen, so maybe I'll put one on outside once the spring gets closer. I'm allergic to some tree pollen.
Make sure that the mask seals all the way round. Air finds the easiest route so, if you leave a gap, that's the route that most of the air will take. And no beard will seal.
