The coins originated from armed service. Coins are often presented in a handshake where the coin is discreetly passed to the recipient. This method maintains an air of ceremony and respect.
The tradition has spread beyond the military to include government agencies, law enforcement, firefighters, and even corporations. Coins are used in these contexts to build team spirit and recognize achievements.
Most units, officers, generals have their own custom coins and also specialty coins are handed out for specific operations.
So that display could range from all the high ranking officials that have given Trump a coin or for other operations conducted where he was given one.
