President Trump promised to release and commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht on day one, but as far as I can tell, that hasn't happened yet.
For those who are unaware, Ross Ulbricht is the founder of the Silk Road, a dark web marketplace where people used Bitcoin to buy and sell (mostly) drugs anonymously. He was captured in 2013 and railroaded in court by corrupt FBI agents who were caught fabricating evidence, and alleged that Ross attempted to hire hitmen to assassinate his rivals. This claim was never substantiated and dismissed at trial, yet the judge still considered that allegation, along with citing Ross's libertarian political philosophy, to justify a sentence of two life terms plus 40 years.
EDIT: Trump has delivered: https://x.com/Free_Ross/status/1881851923005165704
He already promised at the
Bitcoin ConferenceLibertarian Convention (back in May 2024) that he would commute Ross's sentence on day one. It is a big deal to the Bitcoin and libertarian communities, since really Ross is not guilty of any violence and keeping him in prison for life is a gross injustice. Trump would not have made that promise if he hadn't reviewed the case, so I don't think he needs any more input. I can understand that the J6 prisoners are a higher priority, but Ross has already suffered for 11 years and its past time for him to be freed.Sauce for Trump announcing the commutation of Ross sentence at Libertarian conference:
