Just over a month ahead of the start of Florida’s legislative session, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is urging Republican lawmakers to pass legislation legalizing the open carry of handguns.
On April 3, 2023, Breitbart News reported that DeSantis signed legislation making Florida the 26th constitutional carry state in the Union. However, unlike many of other constitutional carry states–the total of which is now 29–Florida’s law only applies to concealed carry. There is no Florida law allowing the open carry of handguns.
On August 5, 2024, Breitbart News noted that Gun Owners of America (GOA) filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, hammering Florida’s continued lack of an open carry provision.
GOA’s complaint said, in part:
This blatant infringement of the Second Amendment right to ‘bear arms’ runs counter to this nation’s historical tradition and would have criminalized the very colonists who openly carried their muskets and mustered on the greens at Lexington and Concord to fight for their independence.
I am personally opposed to open carry. It gives bad guys an edge knowing that you're armed, possibly a danger to their illicit plans, and would take you out first just to be on the safe side. Nope, concealed carry gives me a slight edge, and adds to my "grey man" persona. I don't dress in flashy clothes, appear harmless and mostly 'invisible', and go about my business quietly. I avoid crowds as much as I can, and ALWAYS go armed no matter where I am.
I agree but open carry is just so much more comfortable 😭 it's damn near impossible to conceal outside the waistband in florida when it's 100 degrees out.
Open carry is simply another weapon against liberal/communists so they can not call 911 about a 'man with a gun'. They never mention that fact that the criminal does Not open carry ever.
I have a slim frame so my Ruger LC9 just disappears under a loose fitting shirt. I use a "Clip Draw" attachment that allows it to go inside the waistband and an extremely light tshirt to protect the firearm from sweat.
Look on Amazon for what a Clip Draw is, I swear by it.
I’m absolutely operating in very much the same way. It is surprising how much people don’t notice you much if you go about it correctly, even for me at 6’3”.
While I fully support a state "allowing" citizens to be openly armed, WHY do we need a "constitutional carry" law? We already have a law, the 2nd amendment...just enforce it. It honestly feels like the government is "giving" us the right the bare arms when we have such laws...
When passed, watch the crime rate plummet.

Open or concealed should be our choice ...without permission from the government.
