Everybody worships something and puts something as their chief authority, fren. It just isn’t often thought of in that explicit context outside of “religious” circles.
I personally am not fond of the weird terminologies, and like to break things down to words with more meaning.
Religion, for instance, “life under monastic vows”, “obligation”, “bond”, “reverence”. “pursuit of faith (‘obedient action’) and worship (‘assertion of worth / esteemed as having great worth’)”
It’s easy to make things like video games or cinema or food or sex into targets of worth-ship, for example.
