Mcafee Antivirus is one of the oldest antivirus programs with historically one of the largest install bases. An antivirus program for windows is a program that scans all the files on your computer and then connects to the internet to check against a giant database to see if you have a "virus"/"malware". Think about that that for a minute. Now think about who has it all and think about one of the ways they might have it all.
I can't find what antivirus the US government uses although I did see where there was a licensing agreement with McAfee that allowed DoD employees and contractors to download and use McAfee antivirus for free on their personal home computers in the past.
However there was a warning to, "Please be advised, DISA Home Use licensing for McAfee Internet Security is for personal/privately purchased devices only. Do not install McAfee Internet Security on Government Furnished Equipment (GFE)."
With the pressure from Russian, Chinese, North Korean, and Iranian hackers, I just sorta assumed that the DoD would subject all software to rigorous testing to make sure the software wasn't doing anything nefarious before running down to Walmart, buying a copy of McAfee AV and installing it on a DoD-networked computer.
Yeah, it was the government of Belize though...
