Trump needs to make a deal with universities because ever since Govt got involved with loans the pricing went crazy. It needs to change and be retroactive for those of us in debt for outrageous numbers.
They all need to get off the gov gravy train and operate as the private institutions they're supposed to be. Sink or swim by their standards and operations.
In the specific case of the couple above, if you check your public school's public records, you'll find that getting a masters or PhD is a significant automatic income boost, even if it has no actual bearing on what they teach.
You'll also find that most school districts are part of a private education retirement plan that exempts them from Social Security.
It's all smoke and mirrors trying to obfuscate the fact they are merchandising functionally useless degrees.
Every "college" has the capacity to define and rank the cost benefit amortized over a lifetime of the student of each of the degrees they offer- and needs to be forced to do so before coercing people's signatures on the loans
They need to be forced to sell their products in a public market-placing that info on their websites.
Maybe we, as a society, need to start teaching kids, as early as 9th Grade, how to balance a budget, the difference between simple and compound interest, and how to live within one's means.
Oh, wait, a minute. That means we'd have millions of high school graduates become wise to how the whole financial system we have is a scam, how "higher education" is a scam, and how our govt is a scam. And we can't have that now, can we?
Back in the seventies I got a non-repayable government grant to attend university in the UK. It amounted to around $400 per year. In those days, that was enough to live on (rent, electricity, food and clothing) and run a car. The tuition was paid for by the government. I didn't have to pay back a penny.
I would say this to all who went to collage and got FUFU DEGREES...YOU got what you paid for and were NOT VERY smart in getting the degree in the first place...'nough said!!!!!!!
For “educated” people they are still failing to grasp the fundamental fact that the education system is a Ponzi scheme.
Why does it cost this much to get a degree in a class of a hundred students?

Also drop all the bs softball degrees designed for bureaucrats, I.e “Doctor” Jill Biden.

"The couple, who worked as public school principals, received their doctorates from Nova Southeastern University in Florida in the early 2000s.
Tom has around $55,000 in loans, while Pamela has $77,000, he said.
They were paying around $300 a month each"
These are not smart people thinking $600 a month on $132,000 in loans is paying anything but interest.

I doubt that students in the UK are so lucky now!
