Holy Father, You taught me plenty, yesterday: I had wake up early to catch a train to work a few hundred miles away from home, and You had me waking up 15 minutes sooner than the clock, I enjoyed this extra time to get fresh and ready so soon in the morning. Then I went and had quite a nice day with colleagues IRL. Then, just before going, as I was filling my bottle with hot water for my green tea, I burnt my hand… not too seriously but it was surprising. Then I caught my train and I learnt in Zürich my next connection was cut because of « some unplanned external situation ». I followed the app suggestion and landed somewhere in a smaller town with a few hundreds of other persons waiting in a freezing temperature. Another app suggestion sent me further away from everything, then back to where I was. I mentally prepared myself to walk the 17 miles to a bigger town where there were trains aimed to home and began feeling the cold in my burnt hand. I had not foreseen I would so badly need warmer clothes and that was a bad idea to hike by night that long in this frozen country. Then a nice man spontaneously came near me and told me they had 2 seats in their car to Aarau, which is a Swiss state capital where there also were possible connections. I joyfully joined, guessing You had sent me back there for this Blessed Encounter. The man who also left the car with us in Aarau stayed with me and the wharf and we pleasantly chatted about his job which also is one of my hobbies: video editing. We had a good time and I don’t even know his name, only that he was friendly, interesting and had a warm and firm handshake. He could be an Angel, for all I know. After the next connection I finally was on the last train to home and the person checking our tickets told me this was due to a « person incident ». We all know this euphemism means someone threw himself under a train. So here was I, warmly setup in a functioning train, about to spend a cosy evening at home whilst somewhere near, there were the hurt friends and relative of an hopeless person. I praise You for being the lucky guy here, but I pray even harder these poor people regain their serenity and perspectives back from this terrible loss.

👉🏻 Today, we celebrate Lucy Yi Zhenmei.

Lucy Yi Zhenmei (December 9, 1815 – February 19, 1862) was a Sichuanese Catholic saint from Mianyang, Sichuan Province, China. She is the lone woman of the five Guizhou Martyrs, a subset of the much larger Martyr Saints of China. In 1862, she went with Jean-Pierre Néel, a missionary priest of Paris Foreign Missions Society, to start a mission in Jiashanlong, but just then the administrator of Guizhou Province, Tian Xingshu, began to stir up hatred against Christians, with the support of the local magistrate. As a result, John Zhang Tianshen, Martin Wu Xuesheng, John Chen Xianheng and Néel were all imprisoned and sentenced to death without a formal trial. On February 18, the day of their execution, they encountered Yi Zhenmei on the road. She was also jailed and put on trial that very day and sentenced to death, because she refused to renounce her faith. The following day at noon, February 19, 1862, she was beheaded. Brave believers took the bodies of all five martyrs to Liuchonnguan Seminary grounds for burial.
