Bombing terrorist camps thousands of miles away from our homeland, where it's extremely hard for them to counter attack us here at home is one thing. Bombing Cartels along our Southern Border, who are the real power brokers of Central America, is something totally different.
We have way more Mexican illegals and naturalized U.S. citizens with family still in Mexico who could potentially be targeted by the Cartels. Not to mention all the U.S. citizens that work throughout Mexico that could also be targeted.
Also, how would you like to be living in a U.S. border town and wake up to bombing or strafing runs being made less than a 1/4 mile away from you? Some of the Cartel hidey holes and drug labs are that close. Some of the Mexican border towns are even more densely packed than our border towns, and some of the leaders live within spitting distance of a border crossing, so getting to them requires a little more finesse than sending a Reaper after them. We know where most of the high level HVTs live and operate, so we could have small teams go in, roll them up, and be back on our side of the border before anyone knows what happened. That's a lot easier than trying to ensure there aren't any civilian casualties from a drone strike. I would only use drone strikes or bombing runs on the more secluded drug production labs and any Cartel training camps they may have.
Of course. I wasn't talking about mass casualties. Just bombing their labs and strongholds. Northern Mexico is like the moon. Desolate land with little/ no population. They have big ranches and such......
