Public servants at one time earned lower salaries than private sector employees. The "great benefits" was to balance out the lower salaries and attract workers. Now, they are paid top dollar for salaries and still receive top benefits that the private sector workers do not receive. At some point, something has to give. The govt does not EARN any money. It is all from taxpayers. I'd think it would be better for taxpayers for the salaries to remain competitive, but benefits should be in line with private sector employees. Just my opinion
