If memory serves me, they can be sworn into the US Military and work as JAG prosecutor. I think both Huber and/or Sessions both did this.. Just a theory though. I don't remember where I saw it but I thought it was in a legal document saying that civilians could be sworn into the MI as JAG officers, sort of in the background and no one would ever know it. It would give them further purview/powers as prosecutors.
