Dang I didn’t know that about the new pennies I just sent over $100 worth of the new pennies to Mexico. I wasn’t about to spend time rewrapping them and coinstar chsrges 12 bucks a for 100 $ so I sent to a young girl in Mexico who helps with a dog rescue place that I help finance down there. She’s a good kid us citizen who lives on ranch down in encinada. I went through the cases and picked out the old pennys and sent the new shiny shield back ones to Mexico . Did you know there are 6 different backs in new pennys? I had no idea , I only knew about the shield design . They have a log cabin one that is really cute . It was my first time doing pennies! while I was ordering some cases of other coins at the bank I told my girl who orders my coins to get me 8 cases of pennies . She laughed . I couldn’t believe how many wheat pennies I found . I didn’t really expect more then a couple But i got over 60 wheats going through 5 cases so far . I’m so quick , I can sort through 5000 Pennys in a couple hours lol but I don’t think I’ll do pennys again . Believe it or not it appears nickles are the least picked over . I find a lot of oldies in cases of nickles . I enjoy my boring life lol San Diego is such a fast paced adventurous life and after 45 years of being here I enjoy being home lol
Sounds like a very fun hobby. The penny have 3 cents of metal in them, but it's hard to legal sell them. It's illegal to deface/ melt them down. People probably still do it i bet. With 50-100 dollers worth of equipment,i could do it myself. Trump came out and ordered the mint to stop making pennys a few weeks ago. I've read that half dollers are also good for coin roll hunting,I tried to buy some a few weeks ago,but my local branch doesn't carry them. Next time I'm downtown i might pick some up,it's fun to find silver.
I found 4 silvers out of about 5 cases of halves ! Believe it or not , I sound like tweaker lol but I washed and put in plastic rolls every year from 1965 to somewhere around 2021 not sure if I made it to 2024 I know I didn’t get any 2025 ‘s I haven’t played with halves in awhile , but I probably have a few thousand dollars worth . The last two cases I bought were all shiny and new in the 2010 ro 2020 or so I think , every roll I opened was the same year and I could see looking at both ends the whole case was like that , I stopped unwrapping . I want old ones . So I’ll return those cases someday soon . I just ordered a couple more cases of nickles I’m waiting on . You need to order the cases out here , it takes a week or so . I have a few banks I deal with , some get weird , Union bank , and they don’t want to order them for me ? Chase is where I order all my coins , not that I like banks and shouldn’t use chase , mbut I do . I have a credit union too and they don’t want to order coins for me either ? Not sure what the deal is . President trump stopping the pennys is what prompted me to buy a few cases . I wasn’t planning on opening them , but decided to and as I said it was cool finding so many wheats . You can spot the old pennys immedietly ! I’ll grab a few more cases , out of a hundred dollars in penny's ( 4 cases ) I’ll only keep sbout 20 or 30 dollars , im only keeping the real old ones . It’s a lot of work , my kids better not sell for face value . I started looking pennys up and it’s amazing how many old ones , not wheats , but ones in the 60,s sell for a few dollars each . I won’t sell them, but it was interesting ! I just started with penny's a week ago after DJT made his announcement as I said! I found a lot of 1958 wheats, it was the last year they made them , so they are sought after . I also learned that wheat pennys are the favorite coin with collectors ,, go figure lol ! I also found a site where people sell silver coins for a lot less then silver companys . It’s called Mercari , it’s a used site like a big garage sale or like offer up if you know thst site ! It’s guaranteed , I’ll be buying off there, as people are desperate and the prices are incredible .. 5 walking liberty’s for 100 bucks etc anyway I only started playing with coins a year or two ago !
I know reddit is a shithole but their is a good board for CRH coin roll hunting I'll post a link if your interested. Some people are getting really lucky. You might learn some good tricks IDK.
I'm probably not buying more silver the roll of BU liberties I bought at about 25 oz was the last of it. Oklahoma is starting a silver depository where people can deposit bullion and then get some type of debit card. I will probably do that to help get it started, but not really interested in selling.
All those old coins are worth more than the face value. Even the new penny's have 3 cents worth of zink in them.
Silver going to do very good real soon,I bet.
Save them all.
