April 2, 1833, Pres. Andrew Jackson signed “the Force Bill” into law
= Pres. Jackson could use the military to enforce federal laws, including tariffs, against South Carolina which had tried to use the idea of “nullification” under States Rights and federalism to ignore federal laws considered unconstitutional. (S. Caolina objected to the 1828 & 1832 tariff laws).
Congress passed a new tariff law in 1833 and S. Carol. accepted.
