Yeah, it looks to me like the witch is offering the biblical forbidden fruit. Which is more or less what happened: they forsook their righteous mission in favor of perversion, and the Dept of Ed was lost and now must be scrubbed.

My reading of this too, normal looking teacher as we remember with the evil witch attempting to subvert her with a poisoned gift, the apple of commie doctrine.
